Does AI Threaten Anonymity?

Chief Data Scientist Anthony Scriffignano discuss how emerging technologies are impacting privacy and anonymity. Anthony frames this idea by reminding viewers that just because a program has your picture doesn't mean they know who you are, the program will just recognize you next time it sees you. He does agree that there is now technology called convolutional neural networks that helps us bring large groups of visual and identification data together to help us classify certain objects. These types of technologies can help with your phone's facial recognition or Google's ability to bring up images of dogs for someone's search.

He also explains that while technologies are getting better at recognizing you and your identity, there are still laws that govern how companies are able to hold on to or use that data. Artificial intelligence and machine learning is not at the place where sci-fi movies place it because of the incredible amounts time and computing that is required to quickly identify you among a group of people, but we are getting closer.
